By Henrik Pontoppidan
Founder and owner
I am based in Vietnam and work directly with factories, materials, and production teams across the furniture and cabinet hardware industry.
S2U Design exists to help furniture and hardware companies develop products, align with the right factories, and bring production into Vietnam with clarity, control, and realistic expectations.
This is not remote sourcing.
This is hands-on work on the factory floor, face-to-face with the people actually making the product.

What I do in practical terms
Henrik Pontoppidan
CEO
I support clients at the manufacturing end of their business — where things either work or fail.
That typically includes:
-
Product design and construction for production
-
Factory selection and evaluation
-
Development of new product ranges
-
Sampling and iteration with factories
-
Quality alignment and master sample control
-
Ongoing production follow-up and troubleshooting
For some clients I work as a development and sourcing partner.
For others I act as a trading partner, supplying finished goods with full control of the production process.
Why companies work with me
I have spent more than 15 years working directly with factories in Vietnam.
During that time I have seen where international buyers struggle:
-
unclear technical communication
-
unrealistic timelines
-
poor alignment between design and production
-
and a lack of ownership when things go wrong
My role is to close that gap.
I work directly with factory owners, production managers, and technical teams – taking responsibility for getting clear answers, solving problems early, and making sure what is agreed is actually what gets produced.
Typical situations where I am involved
Clients usually come to me when they need to:
-
develop a new product range for production in Vietnam
-
move production from China to Vietnam
-
find a reliable factory for a specific product category
-
fix ongoing issues with an existing supplier
-
establish a long-term manufacturing setup in Vietnam without opening their own office
The way I work
My approach is practical and direct.
When something is unclear, I go to the factory, sit down with the people in charge, and get a clear position.
When something doesn’t work, I analyse it in context and design a solution that fits the product, the factory’s capabilities, the timeline and the commercial objective.
That can mean redefining a detail, re-drawing a component so it can be produced correctly, or aligning how buyer and factory work together so the process runs properly.
I then present the situation and the proposed solution in clear, practical terms so a decision can be made quickly and confidently.
Because I am based here, I can step in at short notice, deal with issues face-to-face, and bring things to a position you can act on.
This removes guesswork, avoids delays, and keeps development and production moving in a controlled, predictable way.
Beyond individual projects
S2U Design also works with a small number of companies on an ongoing basis as their on-the-ground Vietnam partner.
In this role I function as an extension of their organisation — handling development, sourcing, factory coordination, and production follow-up locally.
This gives companies a practical and cost-effective alternative to setting up their own office or hiring a full local team.
Getting in touch
If you are working with furniture or cabinet hardware and are exploring production or development in Vietnam, you are welcome to get in touch.
We can have a short, practical discussion about your situation and whether Vietnam — and the way I work — is relevant for you.
